What to Do in Iowa City, Iowa – 3 Fun Weekend Getaways

what to do in iowa city

What to do in

Iowa City? The best activities are those that are within driving distance of downtown. You’ll find plenty to do in and around the Iowa City area, from art galleries to nature preserves to festivals. Whether you’re visiting during spring break or a summer wedding, Iowa City has something for you.

Dining in Iowa City doesn’t have to be an expensive affair. You’ll find some great restaurants, both on the waterfront and in nearby Plummer Grove. Fresh seafood is just a block away at the new city market, while you can savor fresh salads at The Stand. Beaches in Iowa City include Cedar Point State Park, which boasts a sand bar, or you can take your pleasure out to the nearby beaches, like Wards Island or Wild Water Island, where there’s a lot of fishing available.

If you’re planning a weekend getaway, Iowa City has a number of options. Starting on Friday, you can visit The Stand, a popular new hangout on the Iowa City’s waterfront. Here, you’ll enjoy waterfront dining, beer and wine, patio beverages like lemonade, and even performances by local bands and DJs. On Saturday, you can visit two popular restaurants near the intersection of Wards Island and Main Street. Westwoods and Cedar Point both offer fine dining with beach access; you can also check out Plummer Grove, a resort town with five lakes, swimming areas, boating, canoeing, fishing, and other water activities.

You might want to take a day trip to Sioux Falls for a little extra excitement. There are several museums in this area, including the Iowa Aquarium & Museum, the Sioux Falls Museum and the historic James E. Polk busting ball. Both of these museums offer fun family-friendly attractions and educational experiences that your kids (and their friends) will love. For a slightly more educational (and exciting!) activity, try the world’s largest indoor water park, located in the Greenville area.

The weekend is not complete without a stop by at one of Iowa’s most exciting zoos, which happens to be in the middle of downtown. The Zoon offers live shows featuring the frolicking animals of The North American Wild Bird Center. You can even grab a bite to eat on the boardwalk before heading back to the zoo. Other special events include a free concert by The Revivalist, featuring original country music and plenty of barbecue. And if you’re looking for a special treat to top off your visit, why not try the ice cream sundae at the Wildflower Bar in Iowa City. This sweet treat is sure to satisfy the sweet tooth (and those who need a break from sweet things).

If you want to spend a little time around some of the more rural parts of Iowa, Cherokee State Park is a good place to start. Cherokee State Park is home to several popular attractions, including the popular Cherokee River Walk, which features fantastic overlooks of the two rivers. The park also has a cafe that offers breakfast, afternoon tea and a variety of refreshments. The list of 19 best things to do in, around, and in between Iowa City and its neighboring cities is long and enjoyable, so plan your vacation to include lots of fun things to do.

Besides the Cherokee River Walk, one of the best things to do in Iowa City is to take part in the special events that occur year round. In the summer months, why not go boating on the famous Iowa State University lake or stroll along the Iowa River? Fall brings a spectacular display of colors as wildflowers start to bloom. Winter brings a welcome respite from the cold as snow melts and the leaves start to fall. Spring provides a host of fun activities and scenic sights as nature provides a backdrop for these beautiful events.

Culture is just one thing you’ll find if you make a weekend trip to Iowa City, and you can’t have a complete day without visiting the Iowa City Museum and Audubon Center. The museum features an exhibit on the life and work of the legendary conservationist and nature buff Fred Larson. There are also several indoor exhibits, including a life-size wax replica of a dinosaur called Brontosaurus. You can see many of his paintings, posters, and other artifacts on display during the rest of the week, and during the summer there’s even a cultural series of free concerts at the Audubon Center, featuring local musicians and performers.

If you’re looking for the best small town entertainment, you can’t go wrong with a trip to the annual Spring Fest. This popular festival happens every Friday night, and it includes great food, craft beer, live music, and plenty of great attractions for visitors. You can also visit the Iowa State Museum after the show and enjoy one of the best small towns in the United States, while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. No matter what you want to do in Iowa City, it’s sure to be a fun and educational weekend for the entire family.

Things to Do Near Iowa city

If you’re looking for things to do near Ithaca, you’ve come to the right place. Iowa City is located in southwestern Iowa, on the edge of the Great Plains. The old State Capitol Building, once home to the state’s first capital, now houses the Museum of Iowa History. The neighboring University of Iowa Museum of Natural History houses paleontological and archaeological artifacts. By the Iowa River, City Park offers playgrounds and sports for kids.

things to do near iowa city

East of Iowa City, you’ll find East Ridge Village, where shopping, dining and nature walk abound. On the north side of town, you’ll discover the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, featuring a wide assortment of music memorabilia. In addition to these mainstays of the area, though, there are plenty of other things to do near Iowa City. North of downtown is Cedar Falls, with its world-famous waterfalls and natural hot springs; while to the south lies Okemos, with its scenic railroad treks and nature trails.

The Black River drainage that flows through Iowa’s northwest corner marks the divide between Des Moines and Cedar Falls. It meanders through northwest Iowa, depositing its water in the upper reaches of the Big Hole River. The river was named after a white couple who lived in the area, which was later called Cedar Falls by settlers. Today, the Black River gives Iowa residents a taste of what life was like prior to statehood. Dotted along the banks of the river are numerous historical sites and attractions, including an 18th century cabin, a stagecoach stand, a stagecoach barn, a stagecoach cabin and the Indian Depot.

Des Moines is the fastest growing urban area in Iowa, and it’s quickly becoming one of the nation’s top destinations for families and retirees. The area is close to major metropolitan areas such as New York, Chicago and St. Louis, with easy access to the rest of the Midwest. Many residents work in nearby cities, but there are also plenty of opportunities for job relocation to surrounding states. If you’re looking for a new home just a few miles away, look into the large number of available farm and ranch properties in this area.

North of Independence, you’ll find a treasure trove of history and culture in the former German village of New Berlin. German immigrants founded the settlement in the 1800s, and their legacy lives on in German Village Park. It’s one of the most picturesque places to take photos, with a natural lake on its doorstep. Tourists frequent the area, which is close to the German National Museum and the Berlin City Center.

Okemos State Park is one of the best locations to take a road trip through northeast Iowa. It offers scenic views of the Mississippi River and the threat of invasive species like deer on the rise. In winter, visitors can enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dog sledding. There’s also a nature center with nature-themed exhibits, which include a butterfly sanctuary and a bird sanctuary.

About a two-hour drive north of Des Moines is the beautiful city of Fort Dodge. This thriving community is known for its wide variety of cultural experiences, including musical entertainment, rodeos, rodeo clown shows and art exhibits. There’s also a world-class rodeo festival, plus horseback riding and other activities including golf, boating and nature trails. Shopping is abundant in the area, with more than 100 galleries, hobby shops and restaurants.

Travelers who need to get away from it all will find there’s plenty to do nearagin the Twin Cities. The two largest cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul, are easily accessible by train and are a short driving distance from each other. College students will appreciate the many campuses and universities in the area, which are ranked high nationally. Visitors can also find things to do near the Northwoods National Park, where they can hike, bike or camp in the forest. For those who love fishing, Bass fishing is a favorite pastime in the area, and wineries near the Minnesota River provide delicious local produce.

City Weather in Iowa City

iowa city weather

If you are looking forward to a great New Year’s Eve then it is time that you head to the Iowa City weather which will be perfect no matter where you are or what time of the year you choose to visit. The weather in Iowa is one of the friendliest in the United States and it doesn’t matter whether you are at home or at work when the weather is bad. If you head over to the Pearl City area in June, the weather can get very hot, but as soon as the weather turns cold it changes dramatically.

When choosing the right place to go on your New Year’s Eve celebration, you will find that you can have a lot of fun in Iowa City during the month of June. While it can get very hot on the night of the third day of this month, it doesn’t get very cold. In fact, it is ranked as one of the top five cities in the state for its summer climate. That being said, the average temperatures on that day of the event were about 55 degrees, which made it one of the cooler places to be. With that being said, you will find that there are a number of different ways to celebrate when it does get cold. Whether you are looking for indoor activities or outdoor activities, you are going to find plenty of options available for you to enjoy.

For those interested in events, you will find that there are a number of events which take place in June. There are musical performances by local musicians as well as a boat show, which happen around the same time as the fireworks display. In addition to all of these things, the most popular event of the summer is the Iwo Jimo Jazz Festival. It is actually held from early May until late June. This outdoor event is hosted by the Cherokee Nation and goes throughout the entire month of June.

To help you understand what I mean by IOWA City Weather, it is important to look at the forecast before heading out on your vacation. The weather in Iowa City is quite unpredictable, especially in the spring months. When the weather is warm and sunny, people love to head out to the beaches and parks. However, if the clouds roll in and the temperature drops quickly, then the nightlife starts to suffer.

If you are looking for ideal IOWA City Weather in August, then you are going to be disappointed. Average temperatures during the day are about fifty degrees with only two percent of the mercury being higher. While the humidity is higher than normal at nine percent, there is no chance of rain. Rain is not expected until the afternoon. So if you are planning on visiting the beach or doing any other outdoor activity during this period, then you are probably safe from any possibility of bad weather conditions.

The only time when the weather in Iowa City does become a bit abnormal is in the evening. There is a chance for light showers in the evening, but there is nothing to worry about. Humidity levels remain above average at six percent. Wind speeds are still below the legal limit, and the risk of thunderstorm activity is low. As you can see, there is nothing really special about this month’s IOWA City Weather report, but there is plenty to look forward to for the rest of the summer.

The best time to go to the beach is from early May through mid-June. This is the best time when you are most likely to find both sand and a clear blue sky. Thunderstorms are rare and very local, and there is generally light rain across the board during the day. The only potential storm that could affect the beach is a light rain, which happens infrequently but could conceivably ruin your day.

July is the month when things actually get interesting. In addition to the light rain, there is also a chance for a tornado outbreak. The tornado has the strongest wind speeds, which make it much more dangerous than light rain. It can even spawn tornadoes that reach a diameter of ten miles. Thankfully, the damage is usually confined to a small area, although you should be aware of the possibility of larger tornadoes.

August is the month when you may truly feel the pressure of your upcoming visit to the beach. While there is a light rain, the tornado is not as common, and there is also a slight chance of a light snowfall. If it snows, the ice may turn into ice drifts, which can really damage any watercraft you might encounter along the shore.
