Take in the Highest Lighthouse in North America Rubicon Point Lighthouse Just a few miles north of Emerald Bay in the D.L. Explore Emerald Bay State Park
A small protected part of Lake Tahoe West Coast, Emerald Bay State Park is among the best attractions in the region. This area is framed with forested hills dotted with glaciers carving a small island at its base. Because it is comparatively less shallow than the rest of Lake Tahoe water, the water has an impressive aquamarine colour. An impressive Scandinavian castle overlooking Emerald Bay’s glimmering waters. In an idyllic position, Vikingsholm Castle (built 1927) is an exceptional example of a Lake Tahoe holiday home and is a National Historic Site. Vikingsholmes is accessible via a steep one-mile walkable trail.
Take a Lake Tahoe Boat Cruise
Boat trips in Lake Tahoe have been an amazing relaxing experience. Throughout their journey into glistening sand, the passengers can enjoy stunning views of fresh pine trees. Many local firms provide scenic excursions or boat tours along Lake Tahoe northshore, southern shore, western shore or Emerald Bay. The cruise and boat ride runs between the Zephyr Cove camp, Richardson Timber Cove Marina and Round Hill Pines Marina in South Lake Tahoe, and Incline Village and North Tahoe marina in North Tahoe. Ideally, a boat trip should include M.S. Dixie II cruises around Emerald Bay departing at ZephyrCove marina.
Visit Tallac Historic Site
The historic Tallac site has been incorporated into the National Register of Historic Places. From Memorial Day until September, the site is open to visitors with the chance to explore it at no additional expense. There is a special events calendar. All year in August, the Historical Estates host a Gattingsby festival which draws thousands from the Roaring Twentyies parties and other 20s themed events recalling the social gathering during the estate’s heydays. To get broader insights into Tahoe’s rich lifestyle in the early 20th century, visitors can enjoy a guided docent tour in the Pope House.
Enjoy the beaches and trails at D.L. Bliss State Park
Duane L. Bliss was a timber-baron whose fortune was made through banking, mining and railroading between the late 19th and early 20th century. On December 1, 1928, the family donated 7444 acres of land in the California State Park District. Today, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Park. The Park offers pleasant picnic areas, lovely lake views and beautiful beaches. The beaches are isolated as they are hidden in dense forest and accessible through steep two-mile hikes. Hit the trails or enjoy the lake at Donner Memorial State Park
The notorious donner group began its Westward journey in 1846 out of Springfield, Illinois as part of the wave of pioneer émigrés to California in the mid-1800’s. The group decided to go along an alleged road to Fort Bridger to get back to California. Unfortunately, the route is recommended by unreliable guides. As the parties entered California in November 1846, heavy snowfall blocked the mountain passes along their route. The group had been ordered to build the lakeside camping camp in an empty cabin that had poor food and no electricity.
Make a Stop at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park
The Sugar Pine Point State Park in Ed Z’berg extends over Lake Tahoe for nearly two miles with dense forest with pines, oaks and junipers. It was owned by wealthy financier Isaias W. Hellman in 1903. Florence Hellman Ehrman inherits the estate. This 2,000-acre estate in Sugar Pine Point State Park offers beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. This simple but elegant rustic residence is built to provide summer vacation and is equipped with modern conveniences. The dining room has redwood paneling while the bedrooms include Navajo rug.
Spend a Day at Kings Beach
This sandy beach with its sheltered pine forests provides ideal opportunities to swim, lounge or swim in the summer. Kings Beach lies on North Lake Tahoe and receives direct sunlight from the morning to evening. The Kings Beach State Recreation Area is well-designed for tourists and provides plenty of parking, public restrooms, picnic tables and benches in a shade-fenced area. It is possible for fish to be caught without permission though. Kings Beach has several hotel accommodations that cater for visitors.
Cross Country Ski Just Below the Flanks of Mt. Tallac
While most destinations talk about their big game as being the best place for skis, Lake Tahoe backs it up with the fact. During the cold season, Camp Richardson gives guests a great chance to scout along Lake Tahoe shore. Test Your Golfing Skills On The Legendary Tahoe Edgewood Golf Course
Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course at Lake Tahoe is incredibly rare and combines picture postcard landscapes with challenge. The course is actually the ONLY Lake Tahoe Golf Course on the lake. Three troughs are found at this location, and for the remaining holes, the lake remains close at hand. For nearly 30 years the course has hosted the American Century Golf Championship. The only negative is that golf costs anywhere between $300 and $25. What is the point of life?

Sand Harbor State Park provides miles of beach miles along the Nevada side of North Lake Tahoe. This majestic landscape offers a stunning backdrop for your summertime outdoor activities.
