It’s open to everyone, but pregnant women and people over 275 pounds should not try it. Bob Wheeler Science Skywalk
The Mid-America Science Museum is the science museum in Hot Springs, Arkansas. There are over 100 hands-on exhibits, some of which are travelling, and some of which are permanent. The museum opened in the 1980s, and the exhibits were originally built in that era. Some of the highlights include the “ball machine” that shoots billiard balls around a track. Visitors can also try their luck at a simulated billiard game on the Mid-America Science Skywalk.
The museum is a popular attraction for visitors, but if you’re a kid at heart, you can try the Bob Wheeler Science Skywalk for free! This outdoor exhibit will take you through a canopy of trees as you walk over netting. You can even walk inside a tree house pavilion. There are also exhibits about the physics of electricity, and you can even see a Tesla coil from up high!
The museum is also home to the Mid-America Science Center, Arkansas’ largest hands-on science center and the first Smithsonian Affiliate in the state. Exhibits explore energy, matter, life, and perception, as well as the wonder of the universe. The museum recently won a $7.8 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, which enabled the museum to upgrade existing exhibits and create new ones. New exhibits include the Bob Wheeler Science Skywalk, a workshop area, and the Oaklawn Foundation Digital Dome Theater.
Anthony Chapel
If you’re thinking about getting married in Arkansas, you should visit the stunning Anthony Chapel. It’s an architectural marvel and is located in the Garvan Woodland Gardens. The chapel was designed by the firm of E. Fay Jones, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Arkansans may not recognize this chapel, but it’s definitely worth a visit. Even if you’re not getting married there, it’s a great place to visit and take in the views of the surrounding nature preserve.
Fay Jones, a graduate of the Fay Jones School of Architecture, was commissioned to design the chapel and gardens. He was known for his love of structure, light and nature. Fay Jennings and the Anthony Chapel have many similarities. It’s the former’s work with the latter that sets them apart. In addition to designing the chapel, they also collaborated with Jones on other projects. The team’s most famous design is the Thorncrown Chapel, which was awarded the fourth-best design of the 20th century by the American Institute of Architects.
Built on a hillside overlooking Lake Hamilton, the chapel is a beautiful and serene setting. Built of native wood, glass, and stone, the chapel has a vaulted glass ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal the sky above and the woodland canopy below. It is a truly spectacular place to get married, and the views from the chapel are absolutely spectacular. The grounds and Anthony Chapel are both well worth visiting during your trip to Hot Springs.
