Cirque du Soleil’s first-ever Christmas show
If you love Christmas, Cirque du Soleil’s first-ever Christmas show is sure to delight you. The production, which has opened in Detroit on Monday, features acrobatics, hoop diving, and more, and is set to run for 10 days in the Fox Theatre.
This dazzling show is based on the poem, “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” written by Clement Clarke Moore. It is set to the traditional music of the holidays and features lovable characters.
The production includes acrobatics, aerialists, stunt performers, and more. The show is also designed to be family-friendly. The production uses five dump trucks of artificial snow to create a snowy environment. In addition to the acrobatics, the show also features a roller skate duo.
One of the shows in the 2022-23 Fox Theatre Series is the new “‘Twas the Night Before…” by Cirque du Soleil. Fans will enjoy the classic poem while being treated to acrobatics, jugglers, and more.
“‘Twas the Night Before…” will be the first of a series of new holiday shows from the company. Throughout 2022, audiences can catch “Elf the Musical” and the award-winning Broadway musical, “Les Miserables.” There will be performances and activities for kids at various venues around the city. You can even join in the fun at the Detroit Historical Museum or Wayne State University.
Another show in the series is the adaptation of James Cameron’s film Avatar. It’s called Toruk – The First Flight and was filmed live in Montreal in December 2015. Tickets are available to see the show in July 2016.

Downtown Detroit Markets and Cadillac Lodge
For the fifth year, Downtown Detroit Markets and Cadillac Lodge will return to the heart of downtown Detroit in 2023. The two have teamed up to offer a unique winter experience. This immersive and fun shopping destination will feature 18 local vendors, along with family-friendly entertainment and warm beverages.
Located at Cadillac Square, the outdoor market is open to the public starting November 10th. Visitors can enjoy the warm glow of Christmas lights while they shop from local vendors.
Also in the square, the Madcap Coffee Company will be hosting a pop-up cafe with sourdough liege waffles. Estella’s Vegan Dessert Boutique will sell vegan-based desserts, and 3 Dogs 1 Cat will stock fashionable and quality home decor items.
The Cadillac Lodge will also be offering a festive experience. It will be a unique, open-air lounge in the heart of Downtown Detroit. You’ll be able to take part in activities such as horse-drawn carriage rides, visit with Santa, and sample Michigan’s original illuminated forest.
Other features of the market include an arctic slide, winter bumper cars, and live entertainment. You’ll also find food and drinks, as well as a cocktail bar in a heated tent.

The BYOB Christmas Light Trolley Tour is a fun night out for the entire family. The best part is that you can bring your own booze onboard. However, you can only drink on the trolley if you are 21 and older. In addition, you’ll be able to see the city in a whole new light!
To make the most of your ride, you’ll need to know where to start. This event begins in downtown Detroit and ends with a trip to Campus Martius. There’s also a skating rink at Campus Martius and a Christmas tree in the park.
For the true enthusiasts, you can hop on the original BYOB trolley and make your way through the city’s holiday attractions. One of the most popular areas for holiday lights is Lakeshore Drive. Among other things, you’ll see the world’s largest Christmas tree.
While you’re there, you’ll have plenty of time to do all of the above, as well as enjoy a visit to the Ford family holiday event. The event features holiday crafts, a concession stand, and a holiday tour of the historic home.
Other noteworthy events include the Rochester Big Bright Light Show and the Holiday Stroll at Canterbury Village. Both of these are worthy of a visit. The Big Bright Light Show boasts 1 million lights, while the Holiday Stroll at Canterbury Village offers dozens of trees illuminated with thousands of LED lights.
Northville Symphony of Lights (formerly Livonia Lights)
Northville Symphony of Lights (formerly Livonia Lights) is one of the more impressive displays of holiday cheer. With 125,000 lights and a slew of other holiday goodies, it’s a treat for the family and a roustabout’s delight for the kiddos. The show is free and runs all weekend long until the last show on December 22. You can see it in person at the Northville Christian School’s back parking lot. Aside from the lights, this venue also boasts a lighted ball diamond, a quarter-mile asphalt path and a lighted ball diamond.
There’s a lot to love about the show, not the least of which is the fact that it is free to the public. In fact, it’s the only event in the area that allows adults to partake in the good old fashioned fun of a night out on the town. Even better, it’s also the only event in the area that’s open on the weekends. So, if you’re looking for a family friendly activity to fill the void on Christmas Eve, you’ve come to the right place.
As far as the event is concerned, the most interesting part is that you get to choose the show you want. This includes a selection of different themes and shows, from a full-on light show to a slew of free concerts. Grosse Pointe’s Santa Claus parade
Grosse Pointe’s Santa Claus parade in Detroit is a tradition, and many families look forward to it each year. The event starts at 10 a.m. on November 25 and will meander through the city’s farms and along Kercheval Road in the City of Grosse Pointe.
There will be a lot of different activities, including a snowman-building contest, a holiday-themed parade, and a visit from Budweiser Clydesdales. It also includes a tree lighting ceremony, music, and a sing-along.
A local resident, Graig Donnelly, has been a vocal critic of the project, and says there’s a pattern of aggressiveness towards Detroit. He says the city’s planning commission and mayor have been wrong to green-light the project without consulting the city of Detroit.
One of the biggest changes that’s occurred in the area is the relocation of several of the city’s iconic events. While there’s still plenty of Santa Claus events to enjoy, some of them have been moved to Metro Detroit retail districts and entertainment venues.
When Grosse Pointe’s Santa Claus parade was moved from the city’s downtown to the suburb of GP Farms, the town was also faced with a major problem. Several roads had been blocked by the park. This included Kercheval road, where the road was piled with snow.
Fortunately, the city has a solution to the situation. In 2023, the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce will hold the annual parade at Cadieux Park in GP City.
