Chatham Pier Fish Market
One of the things to do in Cape Cod with children is visit the Chatham Pier Fish Market. You can buy fresh seafood from local fishermen or pick up a bag of fried seafood to take home. A great thing about this Cape Cod institution is that it offers a kids menu with classic dishes. The market is free to visit and you can take your family for lunch or dinner.
Another place to eat in Chatham is the Mac’s Chatham Fish and Lobster. This new restaurant is located next to the market and offers a cozy atmosphere. A visit to the Chatham Pier Fish Market is a great way to show kids the history of Cape Cod. The market opened in 1958 and was run by Willard Nickerson, the “codfather” of the Cape Cod fish industry. These gray seals can eat up to 35 pounds of fish per day. However, don’t expect to see any seals at the market. The fishermen prefer to see them in their nets.
Grand Slam park
If you’re looking for a fun day out in the Cape Cod area, make your way to Grand Slam park. Located in Harwich Port, this park features bumper boats, batting cages, and a zip line. If you’ve got small children, you’ll want to ride the zip line, which goes over the bumper boats! You can also take your kids to the rock wall or go kart track.
Another popular attraction is the Whydah Pirate Museum, which is interactive and features real treasures. These treasures were found off the coast of Wellfleet in 1984. While visiting, you can see these items up close and learn about how they were discovered, including gold and silver coins, guns, and other treasure. You can also get a lesson in surfing or rent the equipment for the day. At the beach, you’ll find a playground for kids and a beer garden, too.
