Big Shots Amusement Park is owned by the same company as Big Surf Water Park, and offers both traditional and water rides. You’ll find bumper boats, go-karts on a turbo track, and junior stock cars. Historic lodges
Lake of the Ozarks offers a variety of lodging options, ranging from luxury to budget-friendly. From historic lodges to modern amenities, Lake of the Ozarks is a great place to spend a weekend.
Lake of the Ozarks was created in 1931 by impounding the Osage River, making it one of the best vacation spots in the Midwest. There are plenty of activities to keep visitors busy, including boating, fishing, swimming, and exploring the culture of the area. There are numerous resorts located throughout the many arms of the lake, each providing overnight accommodations and activities.
The Willmore Lodge: This historic lodge is a must-see stop when visiting the Lake of the Ozarks. The lodge is a National Register of Historic Places, and the museum here features exhibits about life before the Bagnell Dam was built and the area’s early days.
Franklin’s Hotel: Franklin’s Hotel was established in 1912 and renovated in 2011. It features a restaurant and upscale lakeside cabins with a country-style ambiance. The hotel’s first owner, Franklin, operated it from 1933 until his death in 1946. The lodge features 23 rooms, most with showers. The lodge is located on Lake of the Ozarks’ 60-mile marker.
The Union Electric Lodge: Completed in 1930, the Union Electric Lodge was designed by noted St. Louis architect Louis La Beaume. He was a member of the La Beaume and Klein architectural firm, and also served on the City Plan Commission and Art Museum of St. Louis. The design took two years to complete, and it was approved by Union Electric President Louis A. Egan, who was responsible for the lodge’s construction in its early years.
Wineries
Visit the Wineries at Lake of the Ozarks for a weekend of fine wine and great food. The Ozarks are renowned for their craft wineries, and this region has a great selection. Many of these wineries have beautiful views of the lake. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking, and the wines are outstanding. You can visit one of the wineries for lunch or a relaxing afternoon after a full day of shopping.
Wine lovers can also visit the Dale Hollow Winery in Stover, MO, as well as the Seven Springs Winery. These wineries feature a variety of wines made from local grapes. There’s also Sugarloaf Vineyard, Buffalo Creek Winery, and Casa de Loco Winery. All of these wineries are family-owned and operated and are open seasonally.
Wine lovers will also enjoy the beautiful Finley River Park, which offers trails for hiking and meandering along the river. Finley Farms also offers fine dining at The Ozark Mill Restaurant and great coffee at The Workshop. In addition to the beautiful views of the river, Finley Farms has restored a historic bridge.
Swimming
If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity this weekend, head over to Lake of the Ozarks. The area boasts scenic views and several beaches. Swimming in the Lake of the Ozarks is not only fun and relaxing, but it’s also safe. The lake’s public beaches are located just off Highway 54, Grand Glaize Bridge and Highway 134.
If you’re looking for a kid-friendly swimming spot, check out Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill and Franky & Louie’s Beachfront Bar and Grill. Both locations have shallow swimming areas and fun family activities, like sand volleyball and ice cream.
Those interested in swimming in the lake can also visit Johnson’s Shut-Ins. This natural attraction is reminiscent of a water park, complete with natural slides, waterfalls and jumping cliffs. A rock formation carved out by the east fork of the Black River, it’s the perfect place for families to splash around and enjoy the sun and the water.
If you don’t feel like wading into the cold water, try the smaller, gravel beach at Rocky Falls, which is a part of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. This lake is surrounded by towering oak and pine trees. It’s an ideal spot to cool off and snap some cool pictures. The park also includes a creek, which offers a refreshing place to cool off in between swims.
The Lake of the Ozarks is also home to a multitude of other recreational activities. In addition to swimming, visitors can enjoy various water activities like hiking, boating and canoeing. There are also paved boat ramps and boat rentals to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. There are also 13 hiking trails and picnic areas around the area.
